This Week in Swing
Monday May 5 to Sunday May 11
- Bria's Hot Five, live this Thursday night at the Legion,
2205 Commercial Drive at E.6th Ave. Drop-in
lesson from 8 to 8:30, then dancing until midnight. This is a fundraising event
for the Neil Falkner Memorial Fund. There will be performances too. Admission
is $12 to $25 sliding scale.
- Company B, live this Saturday night at the Legion,
2205 Commercial Drive at E.6th Ave. Drop-in
lesson from 8 to 9, then dancing until 1 o'clock. Admission is $17, or $15 for members.
This is a Jungle
Swing event.
- Dancing this week is on Monday night at the Yale, Thursday at the Legion, Friday at Fat City
in Langley,
Saturday at the Legion, and Sunday
in Abbotsford. See above and below for details of each.
Where to Swing Dance
Monday
- The Yale - Dance to live R&B music on Monday nights at the Yale, a Rhythm and Blues bar downtown at
the corner of Drake and Granville.
Band starts at roughly 9:45. No cover charge but please support the bar. To find out who's playing go to

Thursday
- Showboat - Showboat starts on May 15! Outdoor summer dancing on the Showboat
stage. Dancing from 8 until past 11. The Showboat stage
is in front of the pool in Kitsilano Beach Park. The nearest
intersection is Cornwall and Vine. This dance continues on
donations by dancers, any amount appreciated.
Friday
- The Loft - Held sporadically on Fridays, a swing/blues dance jam session/practica at The Loft, 3245 Main Street at 16th Ave. Dancing from 10 until whenever.
$5, but nobody will be turned away for lack of funds. No website.
- Fat City Swing in Langley - Dance
every Friday at the West Langley
Hall, 9400 208th Street. Drop-in lesson from 8 to 9, then
dancing until 11:30. $7 ($12 for a band) to get in, $6 ($10
for a band) for students. This is a Fat
City Swing event.
- Blues in the City - An after-hours blues dance the Fourth Friday of the month at
Academie Duello, 422 Richards Street.
Dancing from 10 until 3 am. Admission is $8. The next dance is on Friday May 23.
Saturday
- Stomp it Off - Swing at the Legion Hall on Saturday night,
2205 Commercial Drive at E.6th Ave. Doors open at 7:45, drop-in
lesson from 8 to 9, then dancing until 1 o'clock. Admission
is $8 ($17 if there's a band), members pay $7 ($15 for a band).

Sunday
- Suburban Swing in Abbotsford - Swing at the Abbotsford Seniors
Centre Ballroom at 33889 Essendene Avenue (get off Hwy 1 at
Exit 90, go north, turn right onto Essendene). Beginner drop-in
lesson from 7:45 to 8:30, then dancing until 11 o'clock. Cost
is $8, or $7 for students. This is a Suburban
Swing event.

Thursday May 8 - A special yearly benefit dance to raise money for the Neil Falkner Memorial Fund,
featuring Bria's Hot Five, performances, and a silent auction. At the Legion, Commercial at East 6th.
Partner Charleston lesson from 8 to 8:30, then dancing until midnight. Admission is $12 to $25 sliding scale.
